difference between the Christmas raffle and the child's raffle

In our calendar there are many important dates, but there are two that are special, one of them is the Extraordinary Christmas Draw, which we celebrate every December 22 and the other takes place 15 days later, on January 6, the Children's Lottery.

These two lottery draws are very special because of the dates on which they are held, also because of their popularity since they are the ones that most people play, in addition to the excitement they generate and the prizes they distribute. But the Christmas Lottery and the Child's Lottery are more different than it may seem a priori.

Main differences between the Christmas Lottery and the Child Lottery

Prizes distributed by each Christmas and El Niño draw

In the Extraordinary Draw of the Christmas Lottery, twice the money is distributed than in the Child's Draw. El Gordo de Navidad amounts to 4.000.000 million euros in the series, which is €400.000 per tenth. On the other hand the First Prize of the Lottery for Children is 2.000.000 million euros for the series, which corresponds to €200.000 per tenth. A considerable difference, since in El Niño it is half compared to that of Christmas.

This difference is also visible in the rest of the prize categories of both draws.

Christmas drawDraw of the Child
1º Award€4.000.000 for the series / €400.000 for the tenth€2.000.000 for the series / €200.000 for the tenth
2º Award€1.250.000 for the series / €125.000 for the tenth€750.000 for the series / €75.000 for the tenth
3º Award€500.000 for the series / €50.000 for the tenth€250.000 for the series / €25.000 for the tenth

Regarding prizes there is another significant difference, refunds. In the Christmas Raffle there is only oneWhereas in that of El Niño the possibilities are tripled, since there are 3.

In the Sorteo del Niño, the last 4 figures are also awarded with 3.500 euros for the series, 14 endings of three figures awarded with 1.000 euros for the series and 5 endings of two figures awarded with 400 euros for the series.

Collection of the Extraordinary Christmas and El Niño Raffle

If we think about the collection of these two great raffles, we find that in the Christmas Lottery distributes 70% of everything collected, while in El Niño it is 60%.

Although the State takes less in the Lottery of the Child, since much fewer numbers are issued compared to the Christmas Lottery. The amount collected is 900 million euros in El Niño and 3.200 billion euros in Christmas.

Both draws use a different system for awarding prizes. In the Extraordinary Draw of the Christmas Lottery, 2 drums are used, in one are the issued numbers and in the other, the prizes, but in El Niño multiple drums are used, that is, a total of 5 drums, one for each number that make up the tenth, and one more drum with the prizes.

Age of each Draw

The history of the Extraordinary Christmas Raffle dates back to 1812While the Child's Draw more “modern”, since it was held for the first time in the years 1941, although its name as we know it today was not changed until 1966 (here we leave you the history of the Child's Draw).

Duration of the Christmas Gordo and the Kings Draw

In the celebration of each draw we also find another significant difference. In that of Christmas the duration is greater than in El Niño, since it does not end until each and every one of the prizes has been distributed, and the total is 15.304. With the Child's Draw, the order of the prizes is programmed, and since there are not so many, the duration is shorter.

Now we just have to wait and live the illusion of each one of them, dream of being part of their history and share it with our friends and family. Good luck!
