At the counter of El Ferial 7 you ask us this every Christmas: if an administration has already given out the top prize or has distributed many prizes, is it more likely to do so again?
The doubt is understandable. Every year we see long queues outside well-known lottery outlets like Doña Manolita or La Bruja de Oro, as well as numerous reports about the outlets that have given out the most prizes. All of this might lead us to believe that some places are touched by a special kind of luck.
However, the answer is clear: buying Christmas Lottery tickets from a famous lottery office does not increase the chances of your ticket winning a prize.
The reputation of a lottery administration can influence the number of tickets it sells and the variety of numbers it offers, but it does not affect the outcome of the draw.
Why do famous lottery outlets give out so many prizes?
The explanation lies primarily in its sales volume.
A well-known lottery outlet typically sells more different numbers and more series of each number. The more different numbers it sells , the more likely it is that one of them will be among the winners. And the more series of that number it has sold, the larger the prize money will be.
Imagine one lottery outlet that sells 500 tickets and another that sells 50.000, distributed among a much wider variety of numbers. Each number has exactly the same probability, but the second outlet has a presence in more combinations. That's why it's more likely that one of the numbers it sold will appear on the prize list.
For the individual buyer, however, nothing changes . If a person buys a single ticket, they participate with that ticket whether they buy it at a well-known establishment or at a small neighborhood lottery office.
Added to this is visibility. When a well-known lottery outlet sells a big prize, it's usually featured on television, in newspapers, and on social media. We remember the celebrations and the queues, but not the thousands of non-winning tickets that were also sold there.
Does the place of purchase influence the odds of winning the lottery?
No. In the Christmas Lottery, 100.000 numbers participate, from 00000 to 99999. Only one of them is the lucky winner of the top prize, so each number has a 1 in 100.000 chance of receiving the first prize.
The lottery drum does not take into account where each ticket was sold, how many people queued to buy it, or how many prizes the administration has previously distributed.
The draws are also independent . The fact that an establishment sold the winning ticket last year doesn't make it any more or less likely to win next year. Similarly, a lottery outlet that has never sold a winning ticket can do so at any time.
Do famous administrations receive better numbers?
There are no better or worse numbers from a probability point of view.
A low number has the same chance as a high one. Repeated digits, traditionally lucky endings, and numbers related to special dates are also treated the same during the draw.
What can vary from one lottery outlet to another is availability . Each point of sale receives a specific allocation of numbers and series. High-demand establishments may have a larger quantity or variety, but that doesn't make their tickets any luckier.
If you want to better understand this process, in the blog we explain how numbers are assigned in the National Lottery.
Choosing a special date or a digit you like can make the lottery ticket more meaningful to you. That's part of the magic of Christmas, even though its odds remain exactly the same as any other number.
Queues are not a sign of luck either.
Waiting for hours outside a famous lottery office is a tradition for many people. Some even take advantage of a trip, buy lottery tickets for the whole family, and turn the visit into a special occasion.
But a tail indicates popularity and demand, not a mathematical advantage.
Buying your ticket in July, December, first thing in the morning, or a few days before the draw doesn't change your chances of winning. Buying in advance does offer a practical advantage: you'll have a better chance of finding the number you're looking for.
In our article about whether there are better days to buy Christmas Lottery tickets, we explain in more detail what is behind these superstitions.
So, what should you consider when choosing a management company?
Since there is no administration with mathematically better lottery tickets, it is more useful to focus on aspects that do depend on the point of sale:
- It must be an official administration or point of sale.
- That it offers clear information about the purchase.
- Provide proof of the transaction.
- Please explain the shipping or storage conditions if the purchase is made online.
- That allows you to easily locate numbers and endings.
- That it has accessible customer service.
- Please provide information on how a potential award would be managed.
Trust, comfort, and service can be different. The probability of the number cannot.
If you prefer to buy your ticket from home , the purchase method doesn't affect the draw. The important thing is to do it with the appropriate safeguards. You can consult our guide on how to buy Christmas Lottery tickets online safely.
Ferial 7 won the top prize in 2023: are we luckier now?
At El Ferial 7, we experienced one of those moments that a lottery administration never forgets. In 2023, we sold part of 88008, the winning number for the Christmas Lottery's top prize.
We are very proud to have shared that joy, as well as the rest of the great prizes that are part of the history of our lottery administration in Parla.
However, selling the winning ticket doesn't give our numbers a better chance in future draws. It would be dishonest to say otherwise.
Our track record demonstrates our experience and allows us to understand the needs of those looking for a specific number, buying to share, or preferring to leave their tickets in safekeeping. We guarantee personalized attention, security, and assistance during the purchase process. The winning number will continue to be determined by the lottery drum.
Is a well-known administration better than a trustworthy one?
You don't need to travel to a well-known administration or wait in a long queue to participate with the same odds.
The best lottery outlet is the one that offers you confidence , clear service , and a convenient way to buy your ticket . It could be your local shop, an outlet you visit every Christmas, or an official online store.
At El Ferial 7, we are Lottery Administration number 99.630 and have been serving our customers in Parla (Madrid) for nearly 30 years. You can also view our Christmas Lottery tickets online , search for your preferred ending, and choose from the available delivery options.

Questions about the lottery offices and the Christmas Lottery
Can the same number be sold at several different lottery outlets?
Yes. Each number is issued in different series, and these can be distributed among various points of sale. Therefore, the same winning number can distribute money in different locations and lottery outlets.
Do the administrations choose all the numbers they sell?
Not exactly. The numbers and series are distributed among the points of sale following the State Lottery and Betting consignment system. The retailers can manage requests and request specific quantities, but the final availability depends on distribution and demand.
If an issue is sold out at one location, can I find it at another?
It's possible. Just because it's not available at one store doesn't necessarily mean all the tickets have been sold. It might be available at another retailer. We explain the different possibilities in our article on how to get an exact Christmas Lottery number.
